Pantera - o lado quase desconhecido

Uma das maiores e mais influentes bandas dos anos 90. O que nem toda a gente sabe é que o "Cowboys From Hell" não foi o álbum de estreia de Pantera, antes deste já haviam lançado 4 álbuns durante os anos 80. O género musical esse era mais próximo do Glam Metal, bem diferente do estilo musculado que os tornou famosos. E até os nomes dos membros não eram bem os mesmos, o Dimebag Darrell era o Diamond Darrell, o Rex Brown era o Rexx Rocker, só o Vinnie Paul manteve o nome usado nesses tempos. E o Phil Anselmo?? Também lá estava mas apenas no quarto álbum, nos 3 anteriores o vocalista era outro, um tal de Terrence Lee também conhecido por Terry Glaze. E o que dizer das capas?? Lindas não são??

Mas tenho que admitir que não é um trabalho particularmente original, as influências de Metallica são óbvias, mas é um trabalho suficientemente enérgico para manter o interesse até ao fim.

Não há muito a dizer sobre esta banda excepto que foi onde o vocalista Warrel Dane se iniciou nas lides musicais. Um Heavy Metal típico que em pouco difere de outras bandas da época. Editado em 2003 contem a demo desse ano além de outras nunca antes editadas. A qualidade sonora não é das melhores.

Swedish metallers THERION have issued the following update:

"Today we have an announcement that will come as a shock to all of you. The four permanent members of the band have had some discussions and it is clear that we have different goals and visions for the future. Therefore it is best for the band, ourselves as individuals and for the fans that we go separate ways now when there is still plenty of time before the next THERION album and world tour. This means that Christofer [Johnsson, THERION mainman] will continue with THERION and the others will perform their music in other projects and bands.

"We're all still friends, no one is disappointed and there's still some work we have left to do together in terms of editing of materials we have recorded for future DVD's.

"Best regards to all of you and thank you so much for the wonderful support you have given the band during the time we have played together."

THERION's latest studio album, the dual-disc "Gothic Kaballah", was released in North America on February 6, 2007 via Nuclear Blast Records.

THERION last year announced the departure of vocalist Mats Levén (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, KRUX, TREAT, AT VANCE), which took effect prior to the band's appearance at the Wacken Open Air 2007 festival in early August. His replacement in the group was Thomas Vikström, who is best known to metal fans as the voice behind CANDLEMASS' "Chapter VI" album (1992).

O objectivo desta banda não passa pela intensidade de SYL mas sim em parodiar os clichés do Rock e do Metal e conseguem-no com categoria.

Poucas são as bandas que se podem gabar de com um único álbum na sua discografia se tornarem numa das bandas mais influentes na formação de um novo género musical, neste caso o Funeral Doom Metal. Naturais da Finlândia apostaram numa sonoridade Doom/Death bem lenta e hipnótica numa era em que a velocidade era rainha e senhora. Talvez por isso não tenham sido bem compreendidos na altura e acabaram por se dissolver 2 anos antes da edição do álbum, mas as sementes para um novo género estavam lançadas.
